Hello and happy Friday! We made it! Can I get a big WHOOP? Why did this 4-day work week seem so long?
No matter. I’ve got a little something different for you in today’s post, and it’s not just because I forgot to take photos of the homemade applesauce I was going to share with you. Nope, that’s not it (though – yes – I’ll be making another batch this weekend, just for the photos.)
Today is about community. Specifically, the Food Blogging community that Martha Stewart unwisely criticized in an online interview this week. I won’t spend too much time shining a light on her, for it is clear just how far removed she is from the thousands of food bloggers that not only keep our taste buds tingling all over the world, but keep us smiling as well. Her dismissive comments about how “food bloggers are not the experts” makes me laugh.
Oh, Martha. Dear, sweet, billionairess Martha. The food blogging world is far, far away from her manicured herb gardens and restaurant-quality appliances. In our kitchens, we ARE the experts. Nobody knows better how to get it done for our families. How to feed 3 kids, with 3 different sets of taste buds, and often at 3 different times thanks to multiple sports and activities. Or how to cook, shoot, and write about a recipe that –gasp– every single family member loved, all with a sick toddler hanging off our hip. We aren’t just blogging recipes, we are blogging life — what works, what bombs, and everything in between. Food blogging is as much about connecting as it is about cooking, a point she somehow missed, and not by a little.
So that’s enough about Martha Stewart, who is now back-peddling a bit to quell the outrage she has caused with her snooty, aristocratically-delivered criticisms. I’d much rather shine the spotlight on some of the fine and hard-working human beings that make up this wonderful community.
For instance, check out my blogging friend, Tammi, over at Momma’s Meals. Visit her site, check out her recipes, read her stories! Find her on Facebook. Tammi reached out to me when we were both new bloggers, and we have shared the ups and downs of blogging, and mostly have just cheered each other on. Turns out we are both New Englanders, so who knows – we may even meet in person some day! I love her chatty, open-book personality and her emphasis on both family meals and mommy-focused posts. She celebrates motherhood and has featured many readers’ stories. She is also great about supporting other bloggers – like me – via her Featured Fridays posts. She selects another food blogger’s recipe, makes it, writes about it, and introduces the blogger to her readers. Check out the sweet post she wrote about Juggling With Julia today! I can not believe she gets all this done with a toddler and a new baby in the house. GO TAMMI GO!
Well, Georgia is going to be late for school 🙂 Gotta go! I’ll have more new recipes and hopefully a new Halloween treat coming your way next week. Have a wonderful weekend, all!
xoxo Julia

Julia, You are spot on! Not only do you get great ideas visiting food bloggers like yourself, but you also are invited to be a part of a larger community. And this community by the way, are usually parents who are trying to do their best to provide nutritious and creative meals for their families with very little time and help. Yes real people in real life situations. Let the blogging continue!!! 🙂
